What is a smoothie? If you live in an urban area, you probably would not be asking this question because smoothies have been growing in popularity over the past few years. There are smoothie bars sprouting all over, to the delight of the health-conscious public.

To accurately define what a smoothie is, you need to break it down to its most basic ingredients. Essentially, it is a drink with fruits or vegetables as the main ingredient, mixed with a liquid like yogurt, milk or juice. Often, additional flavors and sweeteners are added and all these ingredients are blended until liquefied.

There has been a debate going on for some time regarding smoothies and juices. Both are very nutritious drinks that provide the body with the essential vitamins and minerals. However, the advantage of smoothies is that they contain the whole fruit or vegetable and thus, contain more fiber.
