Smoothies - Recipe For a Healthy Diet

Healthy fruit smoothies are easy to make but they don’t just magically appear. You have to ensure that you have the proper tools and ingredients to make sure that you will be able to make quality, healthy, enjoyable and delicious homemade smoothies.

The only tool you will ever need would be a steady blender. A good blender will never let you down, so take good care of it as this will be your best friend all-throughout your smoothie making career. A food processor may be able to do well too, but if you ask me, a blender is much easier to use for making smoothies – and it’s easier to clean too, since most blender jars can be put in the dishwasher without worries of breaking.

With that out of the way, let’s look at consumable ingredients for a successful smoothie.

Aside from the usual fruits and vegetables used in smoothie-making, there are other products that can be included in blending. Yogurt is one such item for consumption. Most yogurt brands are flavorful and creamy, so it gives that extra oomph and texture to your smoothie. Vanilla and natural, plain yogurt are flavors usually given out in recipes since it is a “safe” flavor, but the yogurt is a versatile product – you can do trial and error on different yogurt flavors to see which suits your taste buds best. Common yogurt flavors are strawberry, lemon, orange and mango, sometimes even with some fruit bits.

Milk is also a great base for smoothies and is definitely better than water because of its nutritional content, the most prominent of which is its richness in calcium. If you are lactose intolerant, try soy milk … or the next ingredient which is …

Juice. Orange and apple juice makes a great base for a sweet smoothie. You can even add ready-made and canned vegetable or tomato juices for a more healthier and nutritious smoothie drink.

And what better way to enjoy a smoothie? Drink it cold. Try adding a little ice. You can choose to pour the drink over the ice, or you can blend it in with the rest of the ingredients for a frothy texture. Also, you can freeze your fruits overnight; based on experience, frozen fruits tend to exude a natural sweetness than fresh ones so that you don’t really need to add more sugar to it. If you do feel that you need to add more sugar, try adding honey instead.

Smoothies are not only easy to make, they’re fun to do too. Try making some with friends or your family for a memorable bonding experience.
