How to Make a Fruit Smoothie

The orange – it is an abundant source of vitamin C, and has a tangy, citrus flavor that reinforces that fact. But did you know that this unassuming fruit also contains calcium (good for teeth and bone development and strength), folic acid (good for the brain), thiamin (converts into energy), magnesium (blood pressure levels are kept in balance because of this), potassium (maintains a balanced electrolyte level and which doesn’t leave you feeling dehydrated), and beta carotene (a great antioxidant)? These should give you more than sufficient reason to incorporate this super fruit into you smoothie repertoire.

There are a variety of recipes for fruit smoothies for this popular fruit. Here are just some of them:

 

Orange Smoothie #1:

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup of orange juice
  • 2 scoops of ice cream (preferably plain or vanilla ice cream)
  • 1 cup of plain yogurt
  • 1 and one-half teaspoons of sugar
  • 1 cup of milk.
Steps:
  1. Blend for about a minute.

  2. Pour and chill for about 10 minutes before serving.

Orange Smoothie #2:

Ingredients:
  • 6 oz. of frozen orange juice concentrate
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup of white sugar
  • 10 ice cubes.
Steps:
  1. Blend until smooth.

  2. Pour into tall glasses and serve.

Orange Smoothie #3:

Ingredients:
  • 2 1/2 cups of frozen unsweetened whole strawberries
  • 1/3 cup of frozen orange juice concentrate
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 2 ice cubes.
Steps:
  1. Blend all the ingredients together.

  2. Process until smooth and serve immediately.

Orange Smoothie #4:

Ingredients:
  • 1 peeled and pitted ripe mango
  • 1 cup of freshly squeezed orange juice
  • one-half cup of nonfat yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon of honey
Steps:
  1. Blend all the ingredients together on high speed, except for the honey.

  2. Once they’re thoroughly mixed, add the honey. Process for about 10 more seconds.

  3. Pour and serve immediately.

Orange Smoothie #5:

Ingredients:
  • 1 peeled orange
  • 1/2 cup of crushed ice
  • 2 tablespoons of cream of coconut
  • 4 oz. of non-fat yogurt
  • 1 freshly squeezed lime juice.
Steps:
  1. Blend until smooth.

  2. For best results, chill and refrigerate for about 5 to 10 minutes.

  3. Serve cold.
